{"data":{"id":"us/20-cfr-404.132","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"20 CFR 404.132","heading":"How we determine fully insured status for a period of disability or disability insurance benefits.","body":"In determining if you are fully insured for purposes of paragraph (b), (c), (d), or (e) of § 404.130 on disability insured status, we use the fully insured status requirements in § 404.110, but apply the following rules in determining when the period of elapsed years ends:\n(a) If you are a woman, or a man born after January 1, 1913, the period of elapsed years in § 404.110(b) used in determining the number of quarters of coverage (QCs) you need to be fully insured ends as of the earlier of—\n(1) The year you become age 62; or\n(2) The year in which—\n(i) Your period of disability begins;\n(ii) Your waiting period begins (see § 404.315(d)); or\n(iii) You become entitled to disability insurance benefits (if you do not have to serve a waiting period).\n(b) If you are a man born before January 2, 1913, the period of elapsed years in § 404.110(b) used in determining the number of QCs you need to be fully insured ends as of the earlier of—\n(1) The year 1975; or\n(2) The year specified in paragraph (a)(2) of this section.","path":["Title 20—Employees' Benefits","CHAPTER III—SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION","PART 404—FEDERAL OLD-AGE, SURVIVORS AND DISABILITY INSURANCE (1950- )","Subpart B—Insured Status and Quarters of Coverage"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-20.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:45Z","sha256":"f8bb2961f7b8c3ed16472d7824ed55476cb7fd6be6331502e31254b72a16cd6f","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/20-cfr-404.131","next":"us/20-cfr-404.133"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
