A reverse distributor is authorized to acquire controlled substances collected through a collection receptacle in accordance with §§ 1317.75 and 1317.80.\n(b) A distributor is authorized to acquire controlled substances collected through a collection receptacle in accordance with §§ 1317.75 and 1317.80.\n(c) A reverse distributor or a distributor that acquires controlled substances in accordance with paragraph (a) or (b) of this section shall:\n(1) Acquire the controlled substances in the manner authorized for reverse distributors in § 1317.15(b)(1) and (2);\n(2) Dispose of the controlled substances in the manner authorized for reverse distributors § 1317.15(c) and (d); and\n(3) Securely store the controlled substances in a manner consistent with the security requirements for Schedule II controlled substances until timely destruction can occur.","path":["Title 21—Food and Drugs","CHAPTER II—DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE","PART 1317—DISPOSAL","Subpart B—Disposal of Controlled Substances Collected From Ultimate Users and Other Non-Registrants"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-21.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:47Z","sha256":"2a31f60aea2a4b145dd0546d0dde61f6470571aa6afc6e745d4cb2753bc799e4","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/21-cfr-1317.40","next":"us/21-cfr-1317.60"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
