{"data":{"id":"us/25-cfr-513.4","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"25 CFR 513.4","heading":"What notice will the Commission give to a debtor of the Commission's intent to collect debts?","body":"(a) When the Chairman determines that a debt is owed to the Commission, the Chairman will send a written notice (Notice), also known as a demand letter. The Notice will be sent by facsimile or mail to the most current address known to the Commission. The Notice will inform the debtor of the following:\n(1) The amount, nature, and basis of the debt;\n(2) The methods of offset that may be employed;\n(3) The debtor's opportunity to inspect and copy agency records related to the debt;\n(4) The debtor's opportunity to enter into a written agreement with the Commission to repay the debt;\n(5) The Commission's policy concerning interest, penalty charges, and administrative costs, as set out in § 513.5, including a statement that such assessments must be made against the debtor unless excused in accordance with the FCCS and this part;\n(6) The date by which payment should be made to avoid late charges and enforced collection;\n(7) The name, address, and telephone number of a contact person or office at the Commission that is available to discuss the debt; and\n(8) The debtor's opportunity for review.\n(b) A debtor whose debt arises from a notice of violation and/or civil fine assessment that has become a final order and that was subject to the Commission's appeal procedures at 25 CFR parts 580 through 585 may not re-litigate matters that were the subject of the final order.","path":["Title 25—Indians","CHAPTER III—NATIONAL INDIAN GAMING COMMISSION, DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR","SUBCHAPTER A—GENERAL PROVISIONS","PART 513—DEBT COLLECTION","Subpart A—General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-25.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:59Z","sha256":"89a48070c92fbee08906430d4073c01ed7d8ff44db521ce82055a13ba089a78f","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/25-cfr-513.3","next":"us/25-cfr-513.5"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
