{"data":{"id":"us/25-cfr-62.1","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"25 CFR 62.1","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in these regulations:\nAssistant Secretary means the Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs or an authorized representative acting under delegated authority.\nBureau means the Bureau of Indian Affairs of the Department of the Interior.\nCommissioner means the Commissioner of Indian Affairs or an authorized representative acting under delegated authority.\nDepartment means the Department of the Interior.\nDirector means the Area Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs area office which has administrative jurisdiction over the local field office responsible for administering the affairs of a tribe, band, or group of Indians or an authorized representative acting under delegated authority.\nSecretary means the Secretary of the Interior or an authorized representative acting under delegate authority.\nSponsor means any authorized person, including an attorney, who files an appeal on behalf of another person.\nSuperintendent means the official or other designated representative of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in charge of the field office which has immediate administrative responsibility with respect to the affairs of a tribe, band, or group of Indians or an authorized representative acting under delegated authority.\nTribal committee means the body of a federally recognized tribal entity vested with final authority to act on enrollment matters.\nTribal governing document means the written organizational statement governing a tribe, band or group of Indians and/or any valid document, enrollment ordinance or resolution enacted thereunder.\nTribal member means a person who meets the requirements for enrollment in a tribal entity and has been duly enrolled.","path":["Title 25—Indians","CHAPTER I—BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS, DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR","SUBCHAPTER F—TRIBAL GOVERNMENT","PART 62—ENROLLMENT APPEALS"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-25.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:59Z","sha256":"5b8e75592e95890955d7a6302a8e91e3996b0e71bf8df53be81ee12284384006","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/25-cfr-61.15","next":"us/25-cfr-62.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
