{"data":{"id":"us/32-cfr-1609.3","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"32 CFR 1609.3","heading":"Eligibility.","body":"(a) The President, upon the recommendation of the respective Governors, will consider for appointment as a member of a local board, any person who:\n(1) Is within the age limits prescribed by the Military Selective Service Act; and\n(2) Is a citizen of the United States; and\n(3) Is a resident of the county in which the local board has jurisdiction; and\n(4) Is not an active or retired member of the Armed Forces or any reserve component thereof; and\n(5) Has not served as a member of a Selective Service board for a period of more than 20 years; and\n(6) Is able to perform such duties as necessary during standby status; and\n(7) Is able to devote sufficient time to board affairs; and\n(8) Is willing to fairly and uniformly apply Selective Service Law.\n(b) The President, upon the recommendation of the Director of Selective Service, will consider for appointment as a member of a district appeal board any person who:\n(1) Is within the age limits prescribed by the Military Selective Service Act; and\n(2) Is a citizen of the United States; and\n(3) Is a resident of the Federal Judicial District in which the district appeal board has jurisdiction; and\n(4) Is not an active or retired member of the Armed Forces or any reserve component thereof; and\n(5) Has not served as a member of a Selective Service board for a period of more than 20 years; and\n(6) Is able to perform such duties as necessary during standby status; and\n(7) Is able to devote sufficient time to the district appeal board affairs; and\n(8) Is willing to fairly and uniformly apply Selective Service Law.","path":["Title 32—National Defense","Subtitle B—Other Regulations Relating to National Defense","CHAPTER XVI—SELECTIVE SERVICE SYSTEM","PART 1609—UNCOMPENSATED PERSONNEL"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-32.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:25:30Z","sha256":"f539b50eec81b5b181339fbb873c35103e2b5e3d424d28073000765cdccd7880","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/32-cfr-1609.2","next":"us/32-cfr-1609.4"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
