{"data":{"id":"us/33-cfr-114.05","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"33 CFR 114.05","heading":"Definitions.","body":"The following definitions apply to this subchapter:\nApproved means approved by the Commandant unless otherwise stated.\nBridge means a structure erected across navigable waters of the United States, and includes causeways, approaches, fenders, and other appurtenances thereto.\nCoast Guard District Commander or District Commander means an officer of the Coast Guard designated as such by the Commandant to command all Coast Guard activities within his or her district. (See part 3 of this chapter for descriptions of Coast Guard Districts.)\nCommandant means Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security, Washington, DC 20593.\nDeputy Commandant for Operations means the officer of the Coast Guard designated by the Commandant as the staff officer in charge of “Operations” (DCO), U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters.\nDistrict Office or Coast Guard District Office means the Office of the Commander of a Coast Guard District.\nHeadquarters or Coast Guard Headquarters means the Office of the Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security, Washington, DC 20593-7000.\nPermit means the license permitting construction of bridges and approaches thereto in or over navigable waters of the United States, issued under the rules and regulations in this subchapter.\nSecretary means the Secretary of Homeland Security or any person to whom he or she has delegated his or her authority in the matter concerned.\nUnited States Coast Guard or Coast Guard means the organization or agency established by the Act of January 28, 1915, as amended (14 U.S.C. 101).","path":["Title 33—Navigation and Navigable Waters","CHAPTER I—COAST GUARD, DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY","SUBCHAPTER J—BRIDGES","PART 114—GENERAL"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-33.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:25:35Z","sha256":"98ec15dde0378342280f810cb5850eaefc8ea292c354c057ddba0a1e3a55dbd8","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/33-cfr-114.01","next":"us/33-cfr-114.10"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
