{"data":{"id":"us/33-cfr-157.116","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"33 CFR 157.116","heading":"Required documents: U.S. tank vessels.","body":"The owner, operator, and master of a U.S. tank vessel having a COW system under § 157.10(e), § 157.10a(a)(2), or § 157.10c(b)(2) shall ensure that the vessel does not engage in a voyage unless the vessel has on board the following:\n(a) The Crude Oil Washing Operations and Equipment Manual that—\n(1) Is approved under § 157.112; or\n(2) Bears a certification by an authorized CS that the manual contains the information required under § 157.138.\n(b) Evidence of acceptance of the tank vessel's COW system consisting of—\n(1) A document from an authorized CS that certifies the vessel meets § 157.10c(b)(2) and each amending letter by the authorized CS approving changes in the design, equipment, or installation; or\n(2) The letter of acceptance under § 157.106 and each amending letter issued under § 157.158(c).\n(c) Evidence that the COW system passed the required inspections by—\n(1) A document from an authorized CS that the vessel has passed the inspections under § 157.140; or\n(2) The letter of acceptance under § 157.142 after passing the inspection under § 157.140.","path":["Title 33—Navigation and Navigable Waters","CHAPTER I—COAST GUARD, DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY","SUBCHAPTER O—POLLUTION","PART 157—RULES FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT RELATING TO TANK VESSELS CARRYING OIL IN BULK","Subpart D—Crude Oil Washing (COW) System on Tank Vessels"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-33.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:25:35Z","sha256":"99db1cfbf0e5a8bd597f5d15d98a46b70a7fe573f1faa05b418c85e0241aa511","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/33-cfr-157.114","next":"us/33-cfr-157.118"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
