{"data":{"id":"us/40-cfr-262.252","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"40 CFR 262.252","heading":"Required equipment.","body":"All areas deemed applicable by § 262.250 must be equipped with the items in paragraphs (a) through (d) of this section (unless none of the hazards posed by waste handled at the facility could require a particular kind of equipment specified below or the actual hazardous waste generation or accumulation area does not lend itself for safety reasons to have a particular kind of equipment specified below). A large quantity generator may determine the most appropriate locations within its facility to locate equipment necessary to prepare for and respond to emergencies:\n(a) An internal communications or alarm system capable of providing immediate emergency instruction (voice or signal) to facility personnel;\n(b) A device, such as a telephone (immediately available at the scene of operations) or a hand-held two-way radio, capable of summoning emergency assistance from local police departments, fire departments, or state or local emergency response teams;\n(c) Portable fire extinguishers, fire control equipment (including special extinguishing equipment, such as that using foam, inert gas, or dry chemicals), spill control equipment, and decontamination equipment; and\n(d) Water at adequate volume and pressure to supply water hose streams, or foam producing equipment, or automatic sprinklers, or water spray systems.","path":["Title 40—Protection of Environment","CHAPTER I—ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY","SUBCHAPTER I—SOLID WASTES","PART 262—STANDARDS APPLICABLE TO GENERATORS OF HAZARDOUS WASTE","Subpart M—Preparedness, Prevention, and Emergency Procedures for Large Quantity Generators"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-40.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:04Z","sha256":"9e12d8a7c2092c247039d54802a520c1df9465e86a957e2d09e326516af24e1e","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/40-cfr-262.251","next":"us/40-cfr-262.253"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
