{"data":{"id":"us/40-cfr-60.5865","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"40 CFR 60.5865","heading":"What types of operator certification must the chief facility operator and shift supervisor obtain and by when must they obtain it?","body":"(a) Each chief facility operator and shift supervisor must obtain and keep a current provisional operator certification from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (QRO-1-2005) (incorporated by reference, see § 60.17) or a current provisional operator certification from your state certification program, by the later of three dates:\n(1) Six months after the municipal waste combustor initial startup.\n(2) September 10, 2026.\n(3) Six months after they transfer to the municipal waste combustor or 6 months after they are hired to work at the municipal waste combustor.\n(b) Each chief facility operator and shift supervisor must obtain and maintain a current provisional certification, and must complete the full certification or be scheduled to take the full certification exam, by the later of three dates:\n(1) Six months after the municipal waste combustor initial startup.\n(2) September 10, 2026.\n(3) For a provisionally certified operator who is newly promoted or recently transferred to a shift supervisor position or a chief facility operator position, a full certification exam must be completed within 6 months after they transfer to the municipal waste combustor or 6 months after they are hired to work at the municipal waste combustor.\n(c) Each chief facility operator and shift supervisor must take one of three actions:\n(1) Obtain and maintain a current provisional operator certification from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers or a state certification program in your state.\n(2) Schedule a full certification exam with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (QRO-1-2005) (incorporated by reference, see § 60.17).\n(3) Schedule a full certification exam with your state certification program.","path":["Title 40—Protection of Environment","CHAPTER I—ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY","SUBCHAPTER C—AIR PROGRAMS","PART 60—STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE FOR NEW STATIONARY SOURCES","Subpart VVVV—Standards of Performance for Large Municipal Waste Combustors"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-40.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:04Z","sha256":"3c870a08f92ae0a5f531d09b5058af57ee70ede7b84b815feb264be3e17746a6","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/40-cfr-60.5860","next":"us/40-cfr-60.5870"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
