{"data":{"id":"us/40-cfr-61.181","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"40 CFR 61.181","heading":"Definitions.","body":"All terms used in this subpart shall have the meanings given them in the Act, in subpart A of part 61, and in this section as follows:\nArsenic kitchen means a baffled brick chamber where inorganic arsenic vapors are cooled, condensed, and removed in a solid form.\nControl device means the air pollution control equipment used to collect particulate matter emissions.\nCurtail means to cease operations to the extent technically feasible to reduce emissions.\nInorganic arsenic means the oxides and other noncarbon compounds of the element arsenic included in particulate matter, vapors, and aerosols.\nMalfunction means any sudden failure of air pollution control equipment or process equipment or of a process to operate in a normal or usual manner so that emissions of inorganic arsenic are increased.\nOpacity means the degree to which emissions reduce the transmission of light.\nPrimary emission control system means the hoods, enclosures, ducts, and control devices used to capture, convey, and remove particulate matter from exhaust gases which are captured directly at the source of generation.\nProcess emissions means inorganic arsenic emissions that are captured and collected in a primary emission control system.\nRoasting means the use of a furnace to heat arsenic plant feed material for the purpose of eliminating a significant portion of the volatile materials contained in the feed.\nSecondary emissions means inorganic arsenic emissions that escape capture by a primary emission control system.\nShutdown means the cessation of operation of a stationary source for any purpose.","path":["Title 40—Protection of Environment","CHAPTER I—ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY","SUBCHAPTER C—AIR PROGRAMS","PART 61—NATIONAL EMISSION STANDARDS FOR HAZARDOUS AIR POLLUTANTS","Subpart P—National Emission Standard for Inorganic Arsenic Emissions From Arsenic Trioxide and Metallic Arsenic Production Facilities"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-40.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:04Z","sha256":"a5bfb4cc5b0b62015b458134dd9c0953c85ff0fe8efd4c5223102de3de056a24","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/40-cfr-61.180","next":"us/40-cfr-61.182"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
