{"data":{"id":"us/40-cfr-86.411-78","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"40 CFR 86.411-78","heading":"-78 Maintenance instructions, vehicle purchaser.","body":"(a) The manufacturer shall furnish or cause to be furnished to the ultimate purchaser of each new motorcycle the written instructions for the periodic and anticipated maintenance and use of the vehicle by the ultimate purchaser as may be reasonable and necessary to assure the proper functioning of emission control systems for the vehicle's useful life.\n(1) Such instructions shall be provided for those vehicle and engine components listed in appendix VI to this part (and for any other components) to the extent that maintenance of these components is necessary to assure the proper functioning of emission control systems.\n(2) Such instructions shall be in the English language and in clear, and to the extent practicable, nontechnical language.\n(b) The maintenance instructions required by this section shall:\n(1) Contain a general description of the documentation which the manufacturer will require from the ultimate purchaser or any subsequent purchaser as evidence of compliance with the instructions, and\n(2) Specify the performance of all scheduled maintenance performed by the manufacturer under § 86.428.","path":["Title 40—Protection of Environment","CHAPTER I—ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY","SUBCHAPTER C—AIR PROGRAMS","PART 86—CONTROL OF EMISSIONS FROM NEW AND IN-USE HIGHWAY VEHICLES AND ENGINES","Subpart E—Emission Regulations for 1978 and Later New Motorcycles, General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-40.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:04Z","sha256":"60c2c0d966d83f18214d73cd92a9cc053f846fafef892de37185f599e388bd83","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/40-cfr-86.410-2006","next":"us/40-cfr-86.412-78"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
