{"data":{"id":"us/41-cfr-302-1.1","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"41 CFR 302-1.1","heading":"-1.1 Eligibility for relocation expense allowances.","body":"Only the following categories of employees are generally eligible for relocation expense allowances under this chapter:\n(a) A new appointee appointed to their first official station (as discussed in this chapter);\n(b) An employee transferring in the interest of the Government from one agency or duty station to another for permanent duty, and their new duty station meets the distance test (see § 302-2.1 of this subchapter);\n(c) An employee of the United States Postal Service transferred for permanent duty, under 39 U.S.C. 1006, from the Postal Service to an agency as defined in 5 U.S.C. 5721;\n(d) An employee performing travel in accordance with an overseas tour renewal agreement (see §§ 302-3.203 through 302-3.209 of this chapter);\n(e) An employee returning to the place of actual residence after completion of a prescribed tour of duty for the purposes of separation from Government service or separation from the overseas assignment for reassignment to the same or different Government agency;\n(f) A student trainee assigned to any position upon completion of college work;\n(g) A Department of Defense overseas dependents school system teacher;\n(h) A career appointee to the Senior Executive Service (SES) as defined in 5 U.S.C. 3132(a)(4), and a prior SES appointee who is returning to their official residence for separation and who will be retaining SES retirement benefits; or\n(i) An employee that is being assigned to a temporary duty station in connection with a long-term assignment.","path":["Title 41—Public Contracts and Property Management","Subtitle F—Federal Travel Regulation System","CHAPTER 302—RELOCATION ALLOWANCES","SUBCHAPTER A—INTRODUCTION","PART 302-1—GENERAL RULES","Subpart A—Applicability"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-41.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:05Z","sha256":"a7b4f4e4bd427f60e0ba548ce4c7d71272eb826625f1b831d12ca7d574025bd8","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/41-cfr-301-80.2","next":"us/41-cfr-302-1.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
