{"data":{"id":"us/45-cfr-2556.730","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"45 CFR 2556.730","heading":"May VISTAs participate in elections?","body":"(a) Provided that paragraph (b) of this section is fully adhered to, and in accordance with the prohibitions set forth in § 2556.710, a VISTA may:\n(1) Register and vote in any election;\n(2) Act as recorder, watcher, challenger, or similar officer at polling places;\n(3) Serve as an election judge or clerk, or in a similar position; and\n(4) Drive voters to polling places for a partisan political candidate, partisan political group, or political party.\n(5) Participate in voter registration activities.\n(b) A VISTA may participate in elections as long as such participation:\n(1) Does not interfere with the performance of, or availability to perform, their assigned VISTA project duties;\n(2) Does not interfere with the provision of service in the VISTA program;\n(3) Does not involve any use of VISTA assistance, resources or funds;\n(4) Would not result in the identification of the VISTA as being a participant in or otherwise associated with the VISTA program;\n(5) Is not conducted during scheduled VISTA service hours; and\n(6) Does not interfere with the full-time commitment to remain available for VISTA service without regard to regular working hours, at all times during periods of service, except for authorized periods of leave.","path":["Title 45—Public Welfare","Subtitle B—Regulations Relating to Public Welfare","CHAPTER XXV—CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE","PART 2556—VOLUNTEERS IN SERVICE TO AMERICA","Subpart H—Restrictions and Prohibitions on Political Activities and Lobbying"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-45.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:21Z","sha256":"1f4080592294f04aaa3095f541f660fcc6cbe78c56c1224f69296bf5d3fe9402","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/45-cfr-2556.725","next":"us/45-cfr-2556.735"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
