{"data":{"id":"us/46-cfr-128.420","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"46 CFR 128.420","heading":"Keel cooler installations.","body":"(a) Except as provided by this section, each keel cooler installation must comply with § 56.50-96 of this chapter.\n(b) Approved metallic flexible connections may be located below the deepest-load waterline if the system is a closed loop below the waterline and if its vent is located above the waterline.\n(c) Fillet welds may be used in the attachment of channels and half-round pipe sections to the bottom of the vessel.\n(d) Short lengths of approved non-metallic flexible hose fixed by metallic or non-metallic hose-clamps may be used at machinery connections if—\n(1) The clamps are of a corrosion-resistant material;\n(2) The clamps do not depend on spring tension for their holding power; and\n(3) Two of the clamps are used on each end of the hose, except that one clamp may be used on an end expanded or beaded to provide a positive stop against hose slippage.\n(4) The clamps are resistant to vibration, high temperature, and brittleness.","path":["Title 46—Shipping","CHAPTER I—COAST GUARD, DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY","SUBCHAPTER L—OFFSHORE SUPPLY VESSELS","PART 128—MARINE ENGINEERING: EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS","Subpart D—Design Requirements for Specific Systems"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-46.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:22Z","sha256":"b1d71a3ff65bc510166fac0a9055839a90ebc535b20d8c4b30d91ce71230c148","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/46-cfr-128.410","next":"us/46-cfr-128.430"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
