{"data":{"id":"us/46-cfr-35.30-30","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"46 CFR 35.30-30","heading":"-30 Portable electric equipment—TB/ALL.","body":"Portable electric equipment must not be used in a hazardous location described in subpart 111.105 of this chapter except:\n(a) Self-contained, battery-fed, explosion-proof lamps approved by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., Factory Mutual Research Corporation, or other independent laboratory recognized by the Commandant, for use in a Class I, Division 1 location for the electrical group classification of the cargo;\n(b) Intrinsically safe equipment approved by Underwriters Laboratories Inc., Factory Mutual Research Corporation, or other independent laboratory recognized by the Commandant, for use in a Class I, Division 1 location for the electrical group classification of the cargo; and\n(c) Any electrical equipment, if:\n(1) The hazardous location is:\n(i) Enclosed; and\n(ii) Gas free;\n(2) The adjacent compartments are:\n(i) Gas free;\n(ii) Inerted;\n(iii) Filled with water;\n(iv) Filled with Grade E liquid; or\n(v) Spaces where flammable gases are not expected to accumulate; and:\n(3) Each compartment where flammable gas is expected to accumulate is:\n(i) Closed; and\n(ii) Secured.","path":["Title 46—Shipping","CHAPTER I—COAST GUARD, DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY","SUBCHAPTER D—TANK VESSELS","PART 35—OPERATIONS","Subpart 35.30—General Safety Rules"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-46.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:22Z","sha256":"35f418e599da16ceb65f9faeaf3c2b5454fdb39a132f6242f25e64d38b42109d","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/46-cfr-35.30-25","next":"us/46-cfr-35.30-35"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
