{"data":{"id":"us/49-cfr-802.2","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"49 CFR 802.2","heading":"Definitions.","body":"In this part:\nBoard means the five Members of the National Transportation Safety Board, or a quorum thereof;\nIndividual means a citizen of the United States or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence;\nNational Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) means the agency set up under the Independent Safety Board Act of 1974;\nRecord means any item, collection, or grouping of information about an individual that is maintained under the control of the NTSB pursuant to Federal law or in connection with the transaction of public business, including, but not limited to, education, financial transactions, medical history, and criminal or employment history, and that contains a name, or an identifying number, symbol, or other identifying particular assigned to an individual, such as a finger or voice imprint or photograph;\nRoutine use means the use of such record for a purpose compatible with the purpose for which it was collected, including, but not limited to, referral to law enforcement agencies of violations of the law and for discovery purposes ordered by a court referral to potential employers, and for security clearance;\nStatistical record means a record in a system of records maintained for statistical research or reporting purposes only and which is not used wholly or partially in any determination concerning an identifiable individual;\nSystem Manager means the agency official who is responsible for the policies and practices of his particular system or systems of record, as specified in the NTSB notices of systems or records; and\nSystem of records means a group of any records under the control of the NTSB from which information is retrieved by the name of an individual or by some identifying number, symbol, or other identifying particular assigned to the individual, whether presently in existence or set up in the future.","path":["Title 49—Transportation","Subtitle B—Other Regulations Relating to Transportation","CHAPTER VIII—NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD","PART 802—RULES IMPLEMENTING THE PRIVACY ACT OF 1974","Subpart A—Applicability and Policy"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-49.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:34Z","sha256":"438b5c10c684782d3a13f68b568688db8666260dbd33a7fb3851c18e2a7e51e7","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/49-cfr-802.1","next":"us/49-cfr-802.5"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
