{"data":{"id":"us/50-cfr-29.118","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"50 CFR 29.118","heading":"What additional operating standards apply to geophysical operations?","body":"If you conduct geophysical operations, you must do all of the following:\n(a) Use surveying methods that minimize the need for vegetative trimming and removal.\n(b) Locate source points using industry-accepted minimum safe-offset distances from pipelines, telephone lines, railroad tracks, roads, power lines, water wells, oil and gas wells, oil- and gas-production facilities, and buildings.\n(c) Use equipment and methods that, based upon the specific environment, will minimize impacts to Service-administered lands and waters, and resources of refuges; visitor uses and experiences; and visitor and employee health and safety.\n(d) If you use shot holes, you must:\n(1) Use biodegradable charges;\n(2) Plug all shot holes to prevent a pathway for migration for fluids along any portion of the bore; and\n(3) Leave the site in a clean and safe condition that will not impede surface reclamation or pose a hazard to wildlife or human health and safety.","path":["Title 50—Wildlife and Fisheries","CHAPTER I—UNITED STATES FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE, DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR","SUBCHAPTER C—THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE SYSTEM","PART 29—LAND USE MANAGEMENT","Subpart D—Management of Non-Federal Oil and Gas Rights"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-50.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:39Z","sha256":"adadf0fdd585f04de80a438baa89b2ae22c5712d12306241206fa44a486ce8f5","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/50-cfr-29.117","next":"us/50-cfr-29.119"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
