For purposes of this subpart, if applicable, the terms used in this subpart supersede those used in § 600.10.\nAnadromous species means the following:\nAmerican shad: Alosa sapidissima\nBlueback herring: Alosa aestivalus\nAlewife: Alosa pseudoharengus\nHickory shad: Alosa mediocris\nAlabama shad: Alosa alabamae\nStriped bass: Morone saxatilis\nRainbow smelt: Osmerus mordax\nAtlantic salmon: Salmo salar\nChinook, or king, salmon:\nOncorhynchus tshawytscha\nCoho, or silver, salmon: Oncorhynchus kisutch\nPink salmon: Oncorhynchus gorbuscha\nSockeye salmon: Oncorhynchus nerka\nChum salmon: Oncorhynchus keta\nSteelhead: Oncorhynchus mykiss\nCoastal cutthroat trout: Oncorhynchus clarki clarki\nEulachon or candlefish: Thaleichthys pacificus\nDolly varden: Salvelinus malma\nSheefish or inconnu: Stenodus leucichthys\nAtlantic sturgeon: Acipenser oxyrhynchus oxyrhynchus\nShortnose sturgeon: Acipenser brevirostrum\nGulf sturgeon: Acipenser oxyrhynchus desotoi\nWhite sturgeon: Acipenser transmontanus\nGreen sturgeon: Acipenser medirostris\nAngler means a person who is angling (see 50 CFR 600.10) in tidal waters.\nAuthorized officer has the same meaning as in 50 CFR 600.10.\nCombination license means either:\n(1) A single state fishing license that permits fishing in fresh waters and tidal waters at one price; or\n(2) A single state license that permits a group of fishing and hunting activities, including fishing in tidal waters, at a price that is less than the sum of the cost of the individual licenses.\nCommercial fishing has the same meaning as in 16 U.S.C. 1802.\nContinental shelf fishery resources has the same meaning as in 16 U.S.C. 1802.\nExempted state means a state that has been designated as an exempted state by NMFS pursuant to § 600.1415.\nFor-hire fishing vessel means a vessel on which passengers are carried to engage in angling or spear fishing, from whom a consideration is contributed as a condition of such carriage, whether directly or indirectly flowing to the owner, charterer, operator, agent or any other person having an interest in the vessel.\nIndigenous people means persons who are documented members of a federally recognized tribe or Alaskan Native Corporation or persons who reside in the western Pacific who are descended from the aboriginal people indigenous to the region who conducted commercial or subsistence fishing using traditional fishing methods, including angling.\nSpearfishing means fishing for, attempting to fish for, catching or attempting to catch fish in tidal waters by any person with a spear or a powerhead (see 50 CFR 600.10).\nState has the same meaning as in 16 U.S.C. 1802.\nTidal waters means waters that lie below mean high water and seaward of the first upstream obstruction or barrier to tidal action and that are subject to the ebb and flow of the astronomical tides under ordinary conditions.","path":["Title 50—Wildlife and Fisheries","CHAPTER VI—FISHERY CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT, NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE","PART 600—MAGNUSON-STEVENS ACT PROVISIONS","Subpart P—Marine Recreational Fisheries of the United States"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-50.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:26:39Z","sha256":"c001dc401bca80a5e69d3033d071dc0ce903379d96f5b7798227dcd020e9736a","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/50-cfr-600.1310","next":"us/50-cfr-600.1405"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
