{"data":{"id":"us/7-cfr-1717.1201","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"7 CFR 1717.1201","heading":"Definitions.","body":"Terms used in this subpart that are not defined in this section have the meanings set forth in 7 CFR part 1710. In addition, for the purposes of this subpart:\nApplication for debt settlement means a written application containing all of the information required by § 1717.1204(b)(2), in form and substance satisfactory to RUS.\nAttorney General means the Attorney General of the United States of America.\nClaim means any claim of the government arising from loans made or guaranteed under the RE Act to a rural electric borrower.\nCon Act means the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act (7 U.S.C. 1921 et seq.).\nDebt means outstanding debt of a rural electric borrower (including, but not necessarily limited to, principal, accrued interest, penalties, and the government's costs of debt collection) arising from loans made or guaranteed under the RE Act.\nEnforced collection procedures means any procedures available to the Administrator for the collection of debt that are authorized by law, in equity, or under the borrower's loan documents or other agreements with RUS.\nLoan documents means the mortgage (or other security instrument acceptable to RUS), the loan contract, and the promissory note entered into between the borrower and RUS.\nRE Act means the Rural Electrification Act of 1936, as amended (7 U.S.C. 901-950b).\nRestructure means to settle a debt or claim.\nSettle means to reamortize, adjust, compromise, reduce, or charge-off a debt or claim.","path":["Title 7—Agriculture","Subtitle B—Regulations of the Department of Agriculture","CHAPTER XVII—RURAL UTILITIES SERVICE, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE","PART 1717—POST-LOAN POLICIES AND PROCEDURES COMMON TO INSURED AND GUARANTEED ELECTRIC LOANS","Subpart Y—Settlement of Debt"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-7.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:01Z","sha256":"3fb6a0bdd3e17a3117a0090d70d7abadffee5caab5a3a43b8fefb3e15f1509a2","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/7-cfr-1717.1200","next":"us/7-cfr-1717.1202"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
