{"data":{"id":"us/8-cfr-286.8","jurisdiction":"us","citation":"8 CFR 286.8","heading":"Establishment of pilot programs for the charging of a land border fee for inspection services.","body":"Under the provisions of section 286(q) of the Act, the Service may establish pilot programs at one or more land border ports-of-entry to charge fees for immigration inspection services to be collected by the Commissioner. Individual ports-of-entry selected by the Commissioner to participate in such pilot programs may charge a fee to enhance inspection services and to recover the cost of:\n(a) Hiring additional immigration inspectors, including all associated personnel costs such as salary, benefits, and overtime;\n(b) Expansion, operation, and maintenance of information systems for nonimmigrant control;\n(c) Construction costs, including those associated with adding new primary traffic lanes (with the concurrence of the General Services Administration);\n(d) Procuring detection devices and conducting training to identify fraudulent documents used by applicants for entry to the United States;\n(e) Other administrative costs associated with the PORTPASS Program; and\n(f) Costs associated with the administration of the Land Border Inspection Fee account.","path":["Title 8—Aliens and Nationality","CHAPTER I—DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY","SUBCHAPTER B—IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS","PART 286—IMMIGRATION USER FEE"],"source_url":"https://www.ecfr.gov/api/versioner/v1/full/2026-08-25/title-8.xml","current_through":"2026-08-25","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:24:01Z","sha256":"9a4e8ddfe8b33c33ba8d870a727d91e92861ecde78a7ed2e2cdd073d26fe03df","source_id":"us-cfr","stale":true,"prev":"us/8-cfr-286.7","next":"us/8-cfr-286.9"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
