About GroundRules

GroundRules republishes the enacted law of the United States, verbatim, for people and their AI agents: given an address or a question, it returns the applicable text at every level it can, each record with its citation, currency date or vintage label, and a link to the official source. Where it cannot, it says so and points at where the law lives.

What this is not

• Not legal advice. We publish the words of the law and nothing else: no summaries, no interpretation, no guidance. For advice about your situation, talk to a lawyer.
• Not the official source. Every record links the official publisher, which is authoritative. We are a mirror with provenance.
• Not complete. We host a growing but partial set of codes; about half of US municipalities publish no code online at all. Absence of a result here never means no law applies.
• Not always current everywhere. Every record carries its own currency date, and a source that has fallen behind its publisher is flagged stale on every response. If a jurisdiction is ever served from a dated snapshot rather than a live feed, that text is loudly labeled with its vintage, next to the text, every time; /v1/coverage shows what is actually hosted and how current it is.
