Ala. Code § 45-34-231.24: Use or Destruction of Unclaimed Property.

Notwithstanding any other provision of this subpart to the contrary, any abandoned or stolen firearm that has been obtained by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office or a task force of the office and that has been unclaimed for a period of six or more months, as provided in this subpart, may be used by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at its discretion for law enforcement purposes or, if unlawful or not safe for use in the discretion of the sheriff, destroyed.
