Ala. Code § 45-57-231: Deputies.

Any law to the contrary notwithstanding, the Russell County Commission and the sheriff of the county shall jointly prescribe the number of deputies in the sheriffs office. The deputies shall be paid in the same manner and from the same funds as are other deputies on the staff of Russell County.
