Ala. Code § 45-59-231: Employment of Personnel; Compensation.

(a) All laws to the contrary notwithstanding, the Sheriff of St. Clair County may employ the following personnel:

(1) One chief deputy.

(2) One under sheriff.

(3) Other supervisory personnel as approved by the county commission.

(4) Deputies as approved by the county commission.

(b) All personnel in the office of the Sheriff of St. Clair County who are employed pursuant to subsection (a) shall be entitled to receive any cost-of-living raises in the same manner as other employees of St. Clair County.

(c) All salaries provided for in this section shall be paid from county funds, and no state funds shall be expended for the purposes set forth in this section.
