(a) The quorum courts of the respective counties of this state are authorized, by ordinance approved by a majority of the members of the quorum court, to establish a county museum, to be under the direction of a county museum commission as provided in this subchapter. (b) (1) The provisions of this subchapter shall not affect the county museum of any county which, on July 6, 1977, had established and was operating a county museum. (2) However, the quorum court of any such county may elect to place the operation of the museum under a county museum commission as authorized in this subchapter.
