The Commissioner of Public Health shall require each person applying for licensure as a physician assistant to submit to a state and national fingerprint-based criminal history records check pursuant to section 29-17a. As used in this section, (1) “physician assistant” means an individual licensed to practice as a physician assistant, and (2) “licensure” means authorization by a state physician assistant regulatory authority to practice as a physician assistant, the practice of which would be unlawful without such authorization.
