20 ILCS 2615/1

The Illinois State Police is authorized to purchase, lease or otherwise acquire and operate one or more radio broadcasting stations in the State to be used for police purposes only. Such radio stations shall broadcast all police dispatches and reports submitted to them which pertain to the apprehension of criminals, the prevention of crime and the maintenance of law and order in order to assist peace officers more effectively to discharge their duties.
