Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 149, § 175: Bells, whistles and gongs

Section 175. Manufacturers and others employing workmen may, for the purpose of giving notice to them, ring bells and use whistles and gongs of such size and weight and in such manner and at such hours as the aldermen or selectmen may designate in writing.
