Mich. Comp. Laws § 330.1817: Insurance coverage and ability to pay; determination to be made after admittance or start of services.

Sec. 817.

For an individual who receives inpatient or residential services on a voluntary or involuntary basis, the department or community mental health services program shall determine the responsible parties' insurance coverage and ability to pay as soon as practical after the individual is admitted.

For an individual who receives nonresidential services, the department or community mental health services program shall determine the responsible parties' insurance coverage and ability to pay before, or as soon as practical after, the start of services.
