Mich. Comp. Laws § 390.8: University of Michigan; departments.

Sec. 8.

The university shall consist of at least 3 departments:

A department of literature, science and the arts;

A department of law;

A department of medicine;

Such other departments may be added as the regents shall deem necessary, and the state of the university fund shall allow.
