Sec. 21.

Except as provided in subsection (2), a person, firm, or corporation who violates this act or a rule promulgated by the board, or who fails or neglects to pay the fees authorized in this act, shall be punished for the first offense by a fine of not more than $50.00, and for each subsequent offense by a fine of not more than $100.00, or imprisonment in the county jail for not more than 90 days, or both.

A member of the elevator safety board who intentionally violates section 8(2) with regard to a meeting shall be subject to the penalties provided in Act No. 267 of the Public Acts of 1976 for violations of that act.

A person, firm, or corporation who operates or continues to operate an elevator, sealed out of service, without the approval of the director shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $25.00 for each day the elevator is operated without the approval in addition to the penalties provided in subsection (1).
