N.J. Stat. § 43:16A-55: Purchase of group insurance coverage for death benefits.

22. The board of trustees may, in its discretion, determine to purchase group insurance coverage for the death benefit provisions as provided in sections 5 and 6, subsection (3) of section 7, section 9, and subsection (5) of section 10 of P.L.1944, c.255 (C.43:16A-5 through C.43:16A-7, C.43:16A-9, and C.43:16A-10) and sections 16 and 17 of P.L.1964, c.241 (C.43:16A-11.1 and C.43:16A-11.2), or may determine not to purchase any group insurance coverage for the death benefit provisions heretofore mentioned.
