Notwithstanding any provisions of section 13-107 of this chapter to the contrary any member whose name was or is placed on a preferred eligible list by reason of the abolition of his or her position in the New York city transit authority due to the sale of city owned transit power plants who has continued to be employed by the purchaser of such power plants until reemployed as hereinafter provided and who within the period that such preferred list remains in effect, accepts employment from said preferred list with the city of New York, the New York city transit authority, the New York city housing authority or the triborough bridge and tunnel authority, shall be allowed to contribute to the retirement system, the amount with interest he or she would have contributed had such service with the purchaser been city service and upon making such contribution such service shall be credited as though it were city service for all purposes. The New York city transit authority shall pay the employer cost of the benefits provided herein only with respect to such persons as are reemployed by the authority. For persons employed from such preferred eligible lists by the city of New York, the New York city housing authority or the triborough bridge and tunnel authority the employer costs of the benefits provided herein shall be paid by the city of New York.
