(A) Before a renewal of a license to practice massage therapy is issued by the board, the licensee shall furnish the board with satisfactory evidence that the licensee has completed during the current licensing period not less than the number of hours of continuing education that the board requires in rules adopted under this section. For an activity to be applied toward the continuing education requirement, the activity must meet the board's approval as a continuing education activity, as specified in rules adopted under this section. Any exception from the continuing education requirement must be approved by the board.

(B) Failure of a licensee to comply with this section shall operate as an automatic forfeiture of the right of the licensee to practice massage therapy in this state.
