R.I. Gen. Laws § 27-19-22: Pap smears — Quality assurance standards.

A pap smear eligible for reimbursement under § 27-19-20 shall be reimbursed only if the laboratory in which the pap smear is processed is licensed by the department of health specifically to perform cervical cytology, or is accredited by the American Society of Cytology, or is accredited by the College of American Pathologists, or is a hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations or the American Osteopathic Association at the time the pap smear is processed.
