R.I. Gen. Laws § 42-56-20: Care and employment of short-term prisoners.

In the case of any person sentenced to imprisonment in the adult correctional institutions for a term of one year or less, the person shall be classified and placed in any custodial care and employment that shall be deemed appropriate by the director.
