S.C. Code Ann. § 40-85-90: Powers of board in connection with investigations and proceedings.

For the purpose of an investigation or proceeding under this chapter, the board or its designee may subpoena witnesses, take evidence, and require the production of documents or records which the board considers relevant to the inquiry.
