S.C. Code Ann. § 44-26-180: Informed consent required for participation in research; promulgation of regulations.

A client or his representative shall give informed consent in every case before participation in research conducted by, for, or in cooperation with the office. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities shall promulgate regulations to obtain informed consent and to protect the dignity of the individual.
