SDCL § 32-14-8: Road construction vehicles excepted--Traveling to and from road work.

The provisions of chapters 32-14 to 32-19, inclusive, 32-22 and of 32-26 to 32-32, inclusive, do not apply to persons, teams, motor vehicles, and other equipment while actually engaged in work upon the surface of a highway, but shall apply to such persons and vehicles when traveling to or from such work.
