Tex. Government Code § 411.0163: HIRING OFFICERS WITH PREVIOUS LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPERIENCE.

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the department may, at the time a commissioned officer is hired, elect to credit up to four years of experience as a peace officer in the state as years of service for the purpose of calculating the officer's salary under Schedule C. All officers are subject to the one-year probationary period under Section 411.007(g) notwithstanding the officer's rank or salary classification.
