Utah Code § 58-31b-301: License required -- Classifications.

(1) Except as provided in Sections 58-1-307 and 58-31b-308, a license is required to engage in the practice of nursing.

(2) The division shall issue to an individual who qualifies under this chapter a license or certification in the classification of:

(a) advanced practice registered nurse;

(b) advanced practice registered nurse - certified registered nurse anesthetist with prescriptive authority;

(c) advanced practice registered nurse - without prescriptive practice license;

(d) advanced practice registered nurse intern;

(e) medication aide certified;

(f) practical nurse;

(g) registered nurse; or

(h) registered nurse apprentice.

(a)

(i) The division shall issue an advanced practice registered nurse - without prescriptive practice license to an individual holding an advanced practice registered nurse license as of July 1, 1998, and who cannot document the successful completion of advanced course work in patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment, and pharmacotherapeutics.

(ii) The division shall issue an advanced practice registered nurse - certified registered nurse anesthetist without prescriptive practice license to an individual holding an advanced practice registered nurse - certified registered nurse anesthetist without prescriptive practice license as of July 1, 1998, and who cannot document the successful completion of advanced course work in patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment, and pharmacotherapeutics.

(b)

(i) An individual who has an advanced practice registered nurse - without prescriptive practice license may not prescribe medication.

(ii) An individual who has an advanced practice registered nurse - CRNA without prescriptive practice license may not prescribe medication.

(4) The division shall grant an advanced practice registered nurse license to a licensed advanced practice registered nurse currently holding prescriptive authority under a predecessor act.
