Any combination of lesser bruises which do not detract from the appearance or edible quality to an extent greater than above allowances; Provided, that superficial bruises that are not noticeable without holding the apple at an angle to the light shall be ignored.

As a guide, depending on their location on the apple and the intensity of the discoloration of the bruises, the following aggregate areas are allowed for noticeable bruising:
