RCW 28A.707.070: Superintendent of public instruction duties—Dissemination of data—Reports.

(1) The office of the superintendent of public instruction shall, directly or through grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements, periodically collect and disseminate data and information regarding:

(a) The number and primary nighttime residence of homeless children and youths in all areas served by school districts;

(b) The education and related services such children and youths receive;

(c) The extent to which the needs of homeless children and youths are being met; and

(d) Such other data and information as the superintendent of public instruction determines to be necessary and relevant to carry out this chapter.

(2) The office of the superintendent of public instruction shall coordinate such collection and dissemination with other agencies and entities that receive assistance and administer programs under the McKinney-Vento homeless assistance act, 42 U.S.C. Secs. 11431-11435, this chapter, or both.

(3) The requirements of subsections (1) and (2) of this section do not apply if equivalent requirements in the McKinney-Vento homeless assistance act, 42 U.S.C. Secs. 11431-11435 are assigned to the secretary of the United States department of education.

(4) By October 1, 2030, and every four years thereafter, the office of the superintendent of public instruction must prepare and submit to the governor and the legislature, a report on the status of education of homeless children and youths in Washington, which must include information on:

(a) The education of homeless children and youths; and

(b) The actions of the superintendent of public instruction and the effectiveness of the programs supported under this chapter.
