Wis. Stat. § 348.18: Weight limitations apply to publicly-owned vehicles; exceptions.

Sections 348.15 to 348.17 and the penalties for violations thereof also apply to vehicles owned by the state, a county or municipality, except when such vehicles are being used for the removal, treatment or sanding of snow or ice or when such vehicles are authorized emergency vehicles.
