D.C. Code § 3-1206.64: Administration of medications.

(a)

The practice guidelines governing drugs and medications shall provide for legal authorization, storage, administration, and record keeping, including requiring that:

(1)

Medications be ordered by a certified-nurse midwife, CPM, certified midwife, physician, or other member of the staff who is licensed to write such orders;

(2)

Medication orders be recorded in the patient-client's chart and signed by the ordering person with his or her full signature; and

(3)

Medications be administered by a physician, nurse midwife, CPM, certified midwife, registered nurse or licensed practical nurse and in accordance with the approved practice guidelines by the Board of Medicine.
