KRS 353.425: Drilling permit requirements -- Administrative regulations.

  1. KRS Chapter 353

(1) A person shall not drill, deepen, reopen, or convert a well for the purposes of

developing a Class VI underground injection control well without first securing

drilling permits from the cabinet.

(2) To both protect and prevent endangerment of underground sources of drinking

water, the cabinet shall promulgate administrative regulations in accordance with

KRS Chapter 13A regarding the drilling, casing, and construction of the wells . The

cabinet shall prescribe the use of materials that are compatible and can withstand

contact with carbon dioxide over the life of the sequestration project, including the

project's conversion, maintenance, and abandonment of wells.
