Mich. Comp. Laws § 380.1151: English as basic language of instruction; exceptions.

Sec. 1151.

English shall be the basic language of instruction in the public and nonpublic schools of this state and in state institutions.

Subsection (1) shall not be construed as applying to:

Religious instruction in a nonpublic school given in a foreign language in addition to the regular course of study.

A course of instruction in a foreign language in which the pupil acquires sufficient proficiency to be conversant in the foreign language.

Bilingual instruction, as defined in section 1152, which will assist children of limited English-speaking ability to achieve reasonable efficiency in the English language.
