Mo. Rev. Stat. § 528.500: Answer shall contain what — issue shall be tried, how.

The answer shall state the nature of the defendant's claim, in all its particulars, shall be verified by the affidavit of the defendant, or some other credible person, and may be filed in vacation; and the court shall cause all questions of fact presented by the petition and answer to be tried as other questions of fact.
