N.C. Gen. Stat. § 86B-25: Board to conduct examinations not less than four times each year.

The Board shall conduct examinations of applicants for licensure to practice barbering as licensed barbers and licensed apprentices, not less than four times each year, at such times and places as will prove most convenient and as the Board may determine.
