SDCL § 9-14-16.1: Elected officials not to hold other office--Exceptions.

The provisions of § 9-14-16 do not prohibit any elected officer from serving in any other volunteer, unsalaried municipal position or providing any service for a municipality if the compensation for the service does not exceed ten thousand dollars per calendar year. The provisions of § 9-14-16 do not prohibit any elected officer from receiving compensation in excess of ten thousand dollars per calendar year for service to a municipal ambulance service in municipalities of the second or third class.
